Santani Fashion Show - NYFW 2023
Mission and Vision
Bright Life NC is a non-profit organization with a vision to create awareness and strengthen connections with Sanatan Dharma. Sanatan Dharma refers to “the eternal law” which consists of duties to be performed according to one’s innate spiritual and constitutional identity as a soul which is universally common for all. According to the notion of Sanatana-dharma, the eternal and intrinsic inclination of the soul is to perform service. The organization aims to change people’s current apocalyptic lifestyle to one which is fulfilling, delightful, and in alignment with their true Dharma.
With its commitment to deepening the connection with Bharatiya(Indian) roots and spreading Sanatan Dharma for the very first time, Bright Life NC will exhibit Indian classical traditional dance costumes during New York City Fashion Week in 2nd week of September. This is a tremendous opportunity to showcase our rich and exquisite Indian cultural costumes and their grandeur essence on such a prestigious global stage.
Artists and models will walk the ramp dressed in the ensembles of Indian Avatars, Gods, and Goddesses. Their overall looks will be further enhanced with intricate accessories and dance mudras. Utmost care is given to costumes to resemble to their original form as described in our ancient Vedic scriptures. The models too will walk the ramp barefoot, offering respect to the Avatar and dance form. Some of the Indian Avatars exhibiting the ramp are Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Shiv, Goddess Parvati, Lord Venkateshwara, Nava Durgas, and many more. These Avatars are profoundly revered and their teachings as well as their lifestyle are embraced even outside the Indian subcontinent.
In Indonesia and Thailand one of our Ithihasas or epic of literature Ramayana is ingrained into Indonesian culture that it continues to be a source of moral and spiritual guidance as well as an aesthetic expression, specially through wayang (puppet play) and traditional dances.
Even our beloved the Ex-president of USA has written on his autobiography “A Promised Land” that – ‘as a child when I was in Indonesia, I use to listen to stories from the ancient epics Ramayana and Mahabharata ; it may be the size of India , it such that it attracts, where as a result one –sixth of the world’s population lives, where the people of 2000 different castes and religion live and where more than 700 languages are spoken. There may be a reason behind my interest in India, that I have always a special place in my heart about India’ Furthermore, Obama’s message of hope, inclusivity, and social justice resonated with many individuals who practice Sanatana Dharma. The principles of compassion, tolerance, and unity, which are central to Sanatana Dharma, find echoes in Obama’s political and personal philosophy. You’d also be surprised to know that there is a fascinating connection between the Hindu deity Hanuman and worship practices in certain parts of Latin America like Bolivia.
Art, dance and music influences the culture of a land and India is a home to diverse classical dance forms. The most popular Classical dance forms are Bharatnatyam, Kathakali, Kathak, Manipuri, Kuchipudi, etc. Folk dances are performed on occasions such as birth of a child, festivals, harvesting seasons, wedding events, etc. The costumes in classical Indian dance serve multiple purposes. They not only enhance the visual appeal and aesthetics but also serve as a medium to portray the cultural and historical context of the dance. The colors, patterns, and embellishments used in the costumes often symbolize specific emotions, characters, or mythological narratives, helping to convey the essence of the dance to the audience. The costumes, combined with the intricate footwork, hand gestures, facial expressions, and body language, transport the audience into a world of art, tradition, and storytelling.
Bright Life NC is enthusiastic and excited to bring authentic, graceful, and traditional Indian dance culture beyond the enclosed restricted boundaries to a global platform to create awareness, recognition, and appreciation. It is an opportunity to create a positive and promising image of Indian culture to a global audience.
We would like you to partner with us and support this genuine and earnest effort in spreading the elements, attributes, and richness of Sanatana Dharma globally.
